Recording Guidelines
You will need to listen to the performance track through earbuds/earphones while you record on another device.
Please wear clothes. Please wear clean clothes. You don’t need to be overly formal, but don’t wear sweats either. Black, white, or solid colors are all good. Please no t-shirts, buttons or other items with political slogans, clever sayings, advertisements, or any other words that would detract from the message of our performance and the celebration of Dr. King.
Have the video focused more on your face and shoulders than the rest of your body. Set up the camera/phone about 3 or 4 feet from your face, if possible, and landscape orientation for your phone is best.
Your audio and video will be mixed with others. We will make everyone look good! Don’t fret about the technology, your performance or anything.
Enjoy yourself. More importantly, LOOK LIKE you are enjoying yourself. This music is amazing, exciting and joyful -- SHOW THAT in your face and body as you perform.
You may record and submit more than one voice part: soprano 1, Soprano 2, alto, Tenor 1, tenor 2, bass, vocal solo (“Glory), Rap solo (“Glory”)

Additional pointers
- Front Lighting Please. Place all lighting in front of you. (Backlighting—lighting from behind you—will make your face too dark to see clearly!)
- Uncluttered backgrounds are best. If you are indoors, try to find a plain wall without a lot going on behind you (tools, art supplies, laundry.) If you can’t locate an ideal background, don’t fret. Please record in a location where you can get the best lighting and sound.
- Eye-level videos. Rather than setting your camera on the table and then looking down at it, try to set your camera to your own eye level, using a tripod, a stack of books, or other set up.
- After hitting record, take time to get situated, and then start the performance track (We can edit on our end if needed)
- Wait after you finish singing. At the end of your video, after your last note, do not move. Look at the camera and wait at least 5 seconds before moving and hitting STOP on your recording device (We can edit on our end if needed)
